Sonic The Hedgehog Returns – New Eyes and Better Design!

Following the Sonic The Hedgehog design controversy earlier this year, our favourite blue hedgehog is finally back in a trailer for the rescheduled 2020 movie.

Many fans were disappointed with Sonic’s design in the trailer that dropped in the spring with concerns that what we were given looked nothing like the Sega mascot. The previous design certainly had the qualities of a hedgehog, but not of those we know Sonic for (big eyes and hands).

Sonic’s redesign which came after director, Jeff Fowler, listened to feedback from thousands of fans voicing their concerns about the CGI hedgehog and said the team were: “Fully committed to making this character the best he can be.”

The movie’s cast includes Ben Schwartz (Ducktales) as Sonic, comedy legend Jim Carrey as Doctor Eggman and James Marsden as Tom who aims to help Sonic. There looks to be similarities to popular video game movie Detective Pikachu with the slapstick humour, but no doubt the movie will be full of classic references to the Sonic games with hopes for other characters to feature.

The movie is set to hit cinemas 14 February. Nothing says Valentine’s Day like Sonic The Hedgehog!
