Pokémon Trading Card Game introduces new ‘V’ Cards

First we had the standard Pokémon trading card game which saw the addition of EX rare Pokémon cards in the third generation, switching up how you played the game and saw a boost in card rarities. Upon the release of Pokémon Sun & Moon we were introduced to GX cards with new attacks and higher HP which has since led into the Tag-Team GX cards from the last three card sets. Now with Pokémon Sword & Shield looming, something new is coming to the card game.

It looks like this will be the trend of the Pokémon TCG that when a generation is due out, the card game will receive a mix up and as it is currently the Pokémon Trading Card Game World Championships in Washington DC. At the event Pokémon Company president, Tsunekazu Ishihara, announced the next “eVolution” card coming to the TCG otherwise known as ‘V’ cards which will have 330HP which is crazy high!

A trailer for the new cards showed two previews which featured the legendary Pokémon from the upcoming games ‘Zacian’ and ‘Zamazenta’. The new cards will play important roles in terms of a player’s strategies with ‘Zacian V’ and ‘Zamazenta V’ cards being included in the first Sword & Shield set.

I have no doubt that the final evolution of the new starter Pokémon will receive ‘V’ cards as well and I do wonder if GX cards will continue or whether this is their replacement.
